Book Babble Review: Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard

For today's book review let me introduce:: Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard!

This is the first novel in a YA Fantasy series and I enjoyed it so much. I follow the author on Instagram and have been watching what she has posted about the series as she wrapped up her previous series, so I have seen this since she first started talking about it. Seeing an author passionate about her book and sharing it gets me invested in a series even if it is just to support the author's passion. The pitch that sold me on the series though was just a basic character description:

A Squire

An Immortal

An Assassin

A Sorceress

A Forger

A Bounty Hunter

and a Pirates Daughter

- The ward's last hope

This story asks the question of what happens after the heroes fall. Who will take up the mantel to save the realm? Victoria starts the story with an epic battle between good and evil in the prologue but what follows that battle will shape the realm forever or it will ruin the realm. This story is told by multiple characters and you get to see the world through multiple peoples eyes.

I was lucky enough to receive this book as an arc from the publisher and was so excited about it. It was such an epic fantasy and a great start to this series, so good that I already want the next one.

You get a full look at all the characters, from the good guys into the bad guys. There are some characters that have minor parts that they are working on building for future books I am sure. The characters interactions with each other seem true to what information that you have on each of them. Since this is the first book in the series there is still so much more that they can reveal and build up to in other stories. Corayne is coming into her own and figuring our what it means to have Cor Blood, Andry is trying to figure out what to do not being a squire. Domacridhan(Dom) is dealing with saving the world and keeping Corayne safe. Sorasa is an assassin with a black mark looking for redemption. We do meet the villians of the series and get a brief look into their "origin" story and how they got to where they are in the book. This is such a brief description of the book and the characters but I don't want to give away too much.

I enjoyed this book immensely! First, THERE IS A MAP IN THE FRONT, which helped so much in understanding this world. The early chapters give you such a good starting point and understanding for each of the characters. Seeing them work together to start to save the realm was so cool to watch develop and rely on each other. If you enjoy fantasy, I think that this would definitely fill that void. It did take me a little longer to read because I had other arcs that I had to get read but every time I sat down to read it, it quickly pulled me back into the world.
